Greetings!
So what
are the latest happenings around Basecamp this week?
We are
working on getting our mom connected with all the valuable services that she’s
entitled to (praise the Goddess). What
this means for us is that very soon we can shove off and resume our sailing
adventures once again!
Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the
meantime, we are working on tying up our own loose ends. It’s a very loooooooooonnnng to do list!
Yesterday,
Sharon spent the day processing tomatoes from the Basecamp Pot Garden into
tomato sauce and today she will make another batch!
She’s
also drying herbs to take along; Mint for tea and Citronella to experiment with
making a batch of incense to keep the bugs away! The incense will be made into coils that will
look kind of like a Pic Mosquito Coil when finished, but they will be from our
herb garden and her own creation! We’ll
post a picture and tell you all about it if they turn out well.
We will
also dry some of my Rosemary and Oregano to take along with us.
For
those of you who might be interested, You can put them outside in the Sun, in a
dehydrator, or in a warm oven for several hours, but the best way to “get it
done” is to dry your herbs right in the Microwave! This concentrates their volatile oils and
retains their color better than the other methods.
The
sturdy herbs, like the heavy- leafed Lemon Geranium or Citronella plant
requires about 2-5 minutes. Start with
the least amount of time and then do short bursts of about 30 seconds at a time
until the herbs feel dry and crispy. The
more tender leafed mint and oregano plants only take about 1-3 minutes.
Well it’s
time to get back to work, but we’ll keep you posted!
Fair
Winds,
Philip
and Sharon
